CONVENT OF ST AGNÉS OF BOHEMIA [Klášter Sv. Anežky České]

Anežská 12, Prague 1
Romanic, Gothic Monastery — National cultural monument

St. Anežka Česká Monastery was established by the Premyslid Princess Anežka, sister of king Václav 1233, most likely in 1233 as the first Klarisky (St. Clara's Order) Monastery North from Alps. It is the first Gothic building in Prague. The monstery was also a cemetery to the Premyslids. Abandoned and wasting away during Hussite Wars. Inhabited again by Dominicans and later by Klarisky. Closed down in January 1782. The whole areal was later changed into storehouses and flats for the poor. Reconstructed since 1963 for the needs of the Prague National Gallery.
