Description (in short)

The foundation stone of the National Theatre has been laid in 1868 while the Theatre was provisionally opened in 1881. It suffered a great fire on August 2nd of the same year, re-opened in 1883. This fabulous Theatre was built in the New-Renaissance style based on a plan by Josef Zítek and Josef Schulz. Eminent czech artists participated on the decoring of the new theatre.
